Unit

Individual cases from a population are known as units. The nature of the unit depends on what you are interested in and the population you are exploring. Though it is common for units to be individual people they can be almost anything. For example, if you wanted to compare different schools in a given region the population would be all schools from that region and the units would be the particular schools that are sampled.
