About the Countries and Citizens: LIMMD project



Project overview

The Countries and Citizens: Linking International Macro and Micro Data (LIMMD) project was funded as part of the ESRC Researcher Development Initiative (RDI). to raise awareness and provide training and support for researchers in the use of the inter-related survey and aggregate data resources that can be accessed through the UK Data Service .

Audience

The course is targeted specifically at post graduates and researchers but may also be of interest to undergraduates. Currently postgraduates and undergraduates account for almost 75% of the registered users of the UK Data Service.

Project objectives

  • Promote increased and more effective use of both aggregate and survey data in international comparative research across a range of topics.
  • Develop improved linkages between ESRC funded training activities and ESRC funded key data resources
  • Promote increased awareness of the methodological, statistical and technical issues associated with linking aggregate and survey data.
  • Enhance the range of training activities offered by the UK Data Service.

The Countries and Citizens: LIMMD project falls into strand i) of The Researcher Development Initiative (RDI): The provision of training and development activities for researchers. RDI aims to facilitate the production and deployment of a range of activities and resources, including student-led activities; training for research students and researchers throughout their career; regional training events; and the development and use of new tools and packages for training purposes.

The project is funded by The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Their goal is to promote and support, by any means, high-quality basic, strategic and applied research and related postgraduate training in the social sciences

Project infrastructure is provided by Mimas with support from the UK Data Archive.

Mimas is a JISC and ESRC-supported national data centre providing the UK higher education, further education and research community with networked access to key data and information resources to support teaching, learning and research across a wide range of disciplines.
