SPSS mini-guide Exemplar 2

1. Make sure you have SPSS version 12 or later with the complex surveys licensed on your system and click on ex2.sav to open it in SPSS.

2. Go to the analysis menu and, at the bottom you should find the complex surveys option

3. Click on this and on 'prepare for analysis At the first step you are prompted as to where you want to save your plan file with survey details. Choose any suitable place to store it. The next stage gives you a dialogue box where you should put in the identifiers for strata, clusters and weights. FOR CORRECT DESIGN EFFECTS THE WEIGHTS SHOULD BE GROSSING UP WEIGHTS which add, at least approximately, to the population size. Select with replacement at the next stage.

4. Once it is set up you can run the other survey commands from their menus .

5. To keep a record of your code, press the paste button just before you do the analysis and your code will be saved in a syntax window.

6. You can also run our prepared code ex2.SPS from a syntax window. But you will need to change the name of the plan files to the file names where you want to save your own plan file.

HINTS:-
i) To see more decimal places in your output, right click on the output and go to > SPSS pivot table >edit. Then right click on a cell in your table and go to cell properties to change the decimal places.
