Working with Individual team Agendas

[c]

When working to individual agendas within a research team issues with the analysis and representation of data may arise in the following ways:

  • It can be difficult to agree how to prepare the field data so that everyone that needs to can access it
  • In cross-disciplinary teams there can be tensions because of the disciplinary norms regarding data analysis
  • Issues arising regarding data are not always about the analysis of data but can be about the types of data that are appropriate. For example, whether there is to be a balance of both qualitative and quantitative data, or whether one approach is favoured
  • Some researchers with a multi-disciplinary team may push for more empirical, quantitative data in favour of different methodological approaches and processes
  • Further tensions may occur between those immersed in the data and undertaking the analysis, and those who are involved in the interpretation but have not been active with the data collection
