There is an increasing requirement for researchers to communicate their ideas and findings to a wider audience. In particular, researchers whose work is publicly-funded may be required to actively present their work as a condition of their award. This particularly applies to work funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

Many Research Councils provide guides and workshops on aspects of writing up and disseminating research. The ESRC provide a series of publications designed to help researchers communicate their work to a wider audience.
