Managing Research Projects

Additional Points - Multiplicity in Research

[c]
  • Have more formal face-to-face meetings than normal with clear agendas
  • Have formal minutes to record the decisions that have been made
  • Supplement formal meetings with regular, informal guidance
  • The frequency of meetings should be varied according to stage of project. For example, it would be good practice to have more meetings at start of project e.g. monthly meetings in first year
  • In some cases, the disciplinary difference and institutional difference are both in evidence simultaneously
  • Some professions also encounter disciplinary difference less often, so may have less experience in working across disciplines and in adapting to disciplinary difference
  • Open exchanges are needed between group members on how the team should work

Project management also needs to consider the level of their responsibility when dealing with senior researchers from varied countries and cultures in colluding or confronting their problems with hierarchies within varying cultures.
