Enhancing Creativity in Meeings

[c]

Appropriate Number?

When planning a meeting consider the number of people to be involved. For example, if the purpose of the meeting is to generate ideas, decide action or resolve a problem too large a group may inhibit the process, likewise too small a meeting may not generate sufficient input.

Visualisation

Visualise a picture of the future – the successful completion of the project. Seeing the outcome promotes identification of the steps taken to arrive at that point. This can be used not only to promote positive outcomes but can also anticipate or prevent negative ones.

Vulnerability audit

Conducting a vulnerability audit will work well where there is good team spirit, trust and respect. Members are asked to identify vulnerabilities of a project, ie what would make it fail, and come up with ideas to prevent their occurrence. Opening up discussion to group members may identify as yet unforeseen vulnerable areas.

Armchair Testing

Armchair testing can be useful at the outset or during the process of a project. Members identify possible scenarios and generate solutions to them. This not only generates creative thinking, but may also pre-empt any problems before they arise.

Fun!

Making meetings fun will increase their creativity and productivity.
